BRAWN, THE PETROLHEAD

-

‘I love cars and I’ve got a very eclectic car collection,’ says Brawn. ‘It ranges from a 1902 Toledo steam car through a 1934 Morgan three-wheeler to a short-wheelbase 250 Ferrari that Stirling Moss raced in the 1960 TT.’

Here’s Brawn on the highlights of his astonishing garage.

‘I have a Porsche 2.7 Carrera and several Jaguars. Unfortunately the Jags aren’t racers; I’d love an old racing CœType or DœType, but I’ve missed the boat on those because they’ve become very expensive. I’ve got an original EœType 3.8 Roadster, Series 1, which has never been restored. It has the original bodywork, original carpets and it still has the stickers in the windscreen that it was bought with.’

‘I can just sit and stare at my ex-Moss short-wheelbase 250 Ferrari. Cars like this are wonderful because you can use them on the road but they have these racing histories that give them an aura. Stirling has driven me at Goodwood in this car several times – magic moments.’

‘Of all the racing cars that I’ve been associated with, the only one I own is the Brawn GP001. It’s the one that Jenson [Button] won the championship in. We were able to demonstrate it at Goodwood a couple of years ago and I hope I can take it out again. Now that Jenson is no longer tied to McLaren, I hope I can get him in it one day and we can do a demo at Goodwood; that would be magic.’
