Interesting final report on your Citroën C5 Aircross (Our Cars, May). Three years ago a move from suburban Hampshire to Edinburgh prompted me to swap my beloved BMW E46 M3 for a C4 Cactus – 345bhp to 82.
After wondering for a while why Citroën had not bothered connecting the steering to the wheels, or put an engine in, I came to love that car. It changed the way I drove and how I felt after a journey. As Phil McNamara says, for me the experience recalibrated what a car should be and gave me a useful reminder that the fastest, tautest machine is not always best – it’s about fitness for purpose, and the key task in choosing your next car should be defining that purpose.
