Cupra’s first non-Seat model, the Formentor, is due to get a five-cylinder engine from the Audi TT RS, with 400bhp and all-wheel drive. Alfa Romeo’s glorious Stelvio will be joined by the smaller – and, Alfa hopes, bigger selling – Tonale. Sharing a platform with the Jeep Renegade, the line-up should include a Q4 plug-in hybrid with the engine driving the front wheels and an e-motor for the rears. The same family will also o er the Maserati Grecale, a straight rival for the Porsche Macan, with the MC20’s 3.0-litre V6 engine, plus a hybrid, and a pure-electric version expected in 2023. Volvo looks very likely to introduce a coupe version of the XC40, with hybrids and an EV o ered, replacing the V40. Nissan’s new Qashqai promises to move slightly upmarket, and includes a range-extender hybrid version.

And brace yourself for the all-new fifth-gen Range Rover, with lighter aluminium underpinnings and a choice of PHEVs, mild hybrids and an entirely non-hybrid BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8. Enjoy it while you can.
