Youngsters shine as Quins claim derby encounter

-

CARMARTHEN Quins Under-9s beat Carmarthen Athletic by 14 tries to eight in a fine derby encounter.

Quins captain Fin Robinson won the toss and it wasn’t long before the ball was moved through quick hands to Macs Hastings, who stepped his way past the cover for his first try of the day.

The Athletic were quick to counter and Sara showed real strength against a committed defence. But the Quins pounced on a loose ball and made their way upfield for a second score.

But the Athletic conjured up a try of their own by taking the direct route and some delightful offloads by Llion, Iwan and Arthur resulted in a try at the corner.

Next on the scoresheet for Quins was Ioan James, whose mazy running caused all sorts of problems. And following the restart great awareness by Elliw Williams saw her pass to Rhys Evans, who crossed out wide.

The Athletic continued to put up stern resistance, with Oliver and Dom making ground along with Harri and Zac. And in defence Macs, Daniel and Efan tackled superbly.

But the Quins remained in the ascendancy with Matthew Stirling, Louie Thomas and Callum Scott playing starring roles.

Sion Jones used his bullocking runs to add to the Quins try tally, assisted by Lloyd Thomas, Celt Evans and Lucas Lewis.
