PERFECT FINISH

Spectacular goal lights up local scene

gave holders Goodwick United a few anxious moments before going down 7-3 in an actionpacked tie in the second round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup.

There was a sensational start to the tie, with Dai Hughes shooting visiting Seaside ahead inside the first couple of minutes.

But Goodwick responded by scoring three goals in three minutes with less than a quarter of an hour gone.

There was an equaliser from Jordan Griffiths, followed in quick succession by goals from Kieran O’Brien and Lee Hudgell to make it 3-1.

But just when it looked as if the holders were ready to take control, Hughes netted his second in the 17th minute to cut the deficit.

Seaside continued to cause problems as they went in search of an equaliser, but 13 minutes later their chance of causing an upset was dealt a blow with the red-carding of Jordan Finnegan for a challenge on Steffan Hayes.

That handed Goodwick a huge advantage, and in the 38th minute they were given the opportunity to stretch their advantage when awarded a penalty. Griffiths made no mistake with his spot-kick, before Matty Delaney netted before the break to make it 5-2.

Although Kieran O’Brien turned the ball into his own net soon after the break, 10-man Seaside still had a mountain to climb.

O’Brien made amends by scoring at the right end for his team in the 60th minute, while Griffiths completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes.

Dafen were very much second best in their 3-0 defeat at home to Swansea side Maltsters Sports.

The visitors looked sharper in front of goal, and made the pressure count with goals from Kyle Morgan, Sam Keefe and Chris Hughes.

In a much tighter contest, Carmarthen Stars went down 3-1 in the away tie against Giants Grave.

The home team just about deserved their success, with goals from Richard Barness, Dean Evans and Ross Hudson earning the Neath League side their place in the next round.

Penllergaer failed to raise a team and conceded their tie against Ragged School, while Burry Port were beaten 5-2 at home by Carew.

Four of the goals for Carew were shared between Jordan Richards and Scott Ferney, with Lloyd Hughes also finding the back of the net.

CK Swiss Valley and Abergwili are also gone, and it took 120 minutes and penalties to settle the tie between neighbours Pontarddulais Town and visiting Pontlliw.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Jordan Gibbs grabbed a late equaliser for Pontlliw to send the tie into extra time and his team went on to win 5-4 on penalties. The spot-kick scorers for Pontlliw were Jack Medwin, Josh Batcup, Adam Scott, Danny Smale and Luke Michaels.

Joining Pontlliw in the next round are Bwlch Rangers, who came from 2-0 behind to win a thriller 4-3 at Penclawdd.

The fightback was inspired by two well-taken goals from Mathew Hughes, plus one each from Matthew Williams and veteran Jason Morris.

And two fine goals from Phil Russell helped Gorseinon Athletic to a 4-2 win in their away tie at Clarbeston Road. Ashley Elson and Robert Jones also netted.

Leading 1-0 at half-time through Dan Thomas, second division side FC Carmarthen were looking at the possibility of a shock win in the away tie against Premier division outfit Loughor Rovers.

But it was not to be, and with Jack Jones striking twice Loughor fought back to win 2-1. Also on target was Mike Grimwade.

There was a hat-trick for striker Kris Brown which helped Trallwm defeat Pwll Athletic 5-2 on their own ground. Rhys Watson and Luke Nicholas scored the other two goals.

Nick Jenkins gave Trostre Sports the lead after just 30 seconds on the way to a 9-1 win at home to West End United. There was a hat-trick for striker Chris Waters.

Jamie Jenkins and Ashley Lewis shared four of the goals, and there was one for Correy Thomas.
