XR stage second event with empty shoe display at square
CARMARTHEN XR recently staged its second event at Guildhall Square.
The empty shoes followed a similar display on Llansteffan beach and represented those who donated them, but were unable to attend due to the five-mile travel restrictions during lockdown. The shoes will ultimately be distributed charities.
The reasons for the display were explained on bilingual signs and all participants strictly observed social distancing and wore face coverings.
Michelle Meredith said: “Some people rightly asked ‘Why do this during a pandemic?’; we are conto local vinced the rapid climate emergency at least equals the danger Covid-19 poses to us all.
“We want government to practice what they preach and ‘follow the science’ and act in a similarly urgent manner to which they are trying to tackle the virus. We do all surely have a stake in the future.”
