Carmarthen Sketch Club and Art Society
THE club was started by Miss Edith M. Lloyd (nee Lodwick) and Miss Gwen Galloway in 1920.
After an interruption from the Second World War it was reformed by Edith Lodwick and Dr John Crane, whose son, David Crane, is our president and supports us still.
Although activities this year at the club have been curtailed due to the coronavirus, we want to share with you that this is our 100th anniversary year.
It is likely that our annual exhibition in Carmarthen Library will be postponed but we are continuing to plan ahead for future art lectures and demonstrations, outdoor venues for group excursions, visits to art galleries and extensive research into earlier art right up to date with todays works of art using all the various techniques available to us.
We were recently able to feature in the July issue of the SAA national magazine ‘Paint’, celebrating our club’s anniversary.
We are a group of inspired local people who want to engage in using colour, shapes and learning more about the meaning of beauty through art.
We are not elite experts and anyone can join us at Pontargothi Hall on a Thursday afternoon. Meetings are held fortnightly.
We truly hope that we can blossom again emerging from this emotional and destructive period in history.
Catch up with us on our website and a new Facebook page under Carmarthen Sketch Club and Art Society coming soon.
I wonder how many clubs can boast a history of 100 years!
