Amman Valley Foodbank at GCG has had another busy and emotional weekend. We were over the moon for managing to pack and deliver a record number of food parcels (46), a daunting task, as the usual number is closer to 15-20. Great teamwork! However, it was sad to also say goodbye to many of our lovely volunteers who are returning to university; we wish you all the very best in your third year of your studies. From the start of the pandemic outbreak and lockdown, we were unsure whether we would be able to remain open, but, thanks to this fantastic band of heroes, we cracked on and did what we had to do to and ensure many in our community didn’t go without. We know that these people wish to remain anonymous, as they do not do what they do for recognition, but we believe they should still receive a special “shout out” and thanks for once. So ”diolch yn fawr o galon” to Karen Kirby, Aled Iestyn Lewis, Gavin Wyn Cook ,Jaz Duncan-rees Williams, Kieran Duncan-rees Williams, Emyr Rees, Mike Harrison, Debbie Davies and Lucy Harrison; thank you all for everything you do; you are a special bunch of young people.

Sponsored walk Emyr Evans is undertaking a sponsored walk to raise money for the Amman Valley Foodbank, and other foodbanks in Carmarthenshire. Your support towards Emyr’s efforts would be greatly appreciated and welcomed!

Bingo has returned to Cwmgors Rugby Club on Wednesday evenings. Please note that entry to the club is via the bottom door (nearest the road to Tairgwaith) and straight into the lounge. The top door is not available for entry. Entry to the main hall is through the lounge doors.hand sanitiser will be available in the hall, and please if at all possible do not share biros or dabbers. On arrival, you will be asked to provide contact details.

Local volunteers wanted Could you volunteer and help Cwmaman Meals on Wheels deliver much-needed meals to the elderly and housebound in the Gwaun cae Gurwen, Cwmgors and Lower Brynamman locality? They are looking for helpers who could manage two shifts a week, on Thursdays and Fridays. Please get in touch with county councillor Kevin Madge on 01269 825438 if you are able to volunteer in any way on either day. Clwb Tairgwaith’s centenary Tairgwaith Workingmens’ Club opened its doors on September 24, 1920, so tomorrow, the club will be celebrating its 100th birthday. No doubt the centenary would have been celebrated with a big bash, but, with the current regulations and restrictions in place, this is obviously not possible, and perhaps will be able to be enjoyed at a later time. In the meantime, penblwydd hapus i Glwb Tairgwaith, rhan o’r cymundeb am y 100 mlynedd diwethaf!

Deepest sympathy is expressed to all the family following the sudden passing away of Cwmgors gent Teg Griffiths, of Heol y Gors. Teg sadly died at Morriston Hospital on August 28. He was the beloved husband of Marion, a loving father and a devoted and caring Dadcu of

Tamlin, and a dear brother of Peggy. The funeral was on September 16 at Morriston Crematorium.

Please keep safe Ysgol Gwaun cae Gurwen is keen to remind everyone of the one-way system in place at the school at the end of the school day. Please, for everyone’s safety, only use the correct entrance point and exit point via the park gate only. This is to ensure the safety of all and keep a clear flow of traffic. Please don’t congregate, and keep to the two-metre rule. Once you collect your child, please leave the school site immediately; also, only one parent per household is allowed at present. If we all follow these simple rules, we will all keep everybody safe. Diolch.
