HARRIERS STAR AFTER RETURN

-

YOUNG Carmarthen Harriers have made the most of their return to action.

Many have been eager to return to action following the easing of restrictions brought about by the coronavirus emergency.

And some have made up for lost time with a string of impressive performances.

Club sprinters, jumpers and throwers in the under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-20 age groups got their entries in for several track and field meetings which have been held in Wales and in the South West England region.

With limited opportunities to compete outdoors in 2020, the 10 athletes enjoyed great success on the road with many personal bests.

At the Devon track and field open in Braunton, four athletes made the 400-mile round trip and returned to West Wales with impressive performances in the 75m, 100m, 200m, 600m, long jump and triple jump.

Results: Zara Evans 200m (27.42), triple jump (10.42m), Jessica Lee 200m (25.55), long jump (5.46m), Casi Gregson 100m (13.94), 200m (28.38) and Iago Evans 75m (12.24), 150m (25.09), 600m (2:19.47).

Evans also competed at the Menai Track and Field sprints competition in Bangor, where she clocked 27.60 seconds in the 200m.

Meanwhile, team-mates and sprinters Sophia Reid-thomas and Ellie Loweth went to Whitehall for the Bristol & West Athletic Club open festival of speed featuring 100m and 200m races.

Reid-thomas recorded performances of 13.2 in the 100m and 27.8 in the 200m.

Loweth clocked heat of the 200m.

Welsh Athletics organised a throws meeting at Swansea University and Morgan Batten participated in the combined under-17, under-20 and senior javelin competition.

Batten came out on top thanks to five legal throws beyond the 40-metre mark, with his second-round attempt measured at an impressive 47.04m.

Osian and Beca Roberts were involved at the Yeovil & District Athletics Club sprints and hurdles meeting alongside several other Welsh athletes.

Hurdler Osian, moving up to compete in his first hurdles race over 100m, finished in a time of 14.8 seconds.

At the same meeting, Beca jumped a best of 10.90m in the women’s triple jump.

That came a few weeks after leaping 11.14m at the Yeovil Olympiads field events open.

Chelmsford hosted the high jump mini series and Lili Church cleared a best of 1.67m, which was enough to take victory in Pool C. 28.0 in the next
