Cwm youngsters looking to make up for lost time

-

THE children at Cwmamman United Juniors are making up for lost time after lockdown.

Almost 100 children have been involved since training sessions were allowed to resume, with the Amman Valley club running teams from under-5s to under-13s.

Junior organiser Siobhan Williams said: “Once it was announced that football activity could take place, we had to ensure we had a safe environment following government and FAW guidelines.

“A number of checks and practices needed to be immediately put in place and the club worked hard to ensure that was done.

“With the kids at home during lockdown we tried to help with their health and mental well-being through a number of ideas including remotely organising quizzes, home football practice exercises, sharing videos of water bucket challenges as well as encouraging group participation in the Joe Wicks Youtube exercise classes.

“All that helped, but you can’t beat kicking a ball with your friends, and the enthusiasm on their return has been great to see.”

Cwmamman have spread the sessions across the week from Monday to Friday and are working hard on developing a new playing area behind the main stand as well as installing extra training lights. This will create more playing options and safety space.

If they can get sponsors for much-needed drainage work, that will increase additional playing opportunities during bad weather.

Siobhan added: “We are happy to welcome more children who may want to be active, make new friends and be part of a fun environment within our club. Our focus is enjoyment, and when games resume all players will have equal playing time irrespective of ability.”

If you wish to know more, go to Grenig Park on Thursday from 6-7pm or get in touch through the club’s social media platforms.
