Harvest festival help Lots of Tots, Tai’rgwaith, to help mark the Harvest Festival this year, are asking children to bring along a food item (e.g. fruit,tins or packets) for our harvest display. We are donating the hamper to the food hub in Canolfan Maerdy and the Food Pantry in Gwaun-cae-gurwen, who both do fantastic work in our community; they will donate the food locally. Thank you all once again for your ongoing support. Brainstrus­t proceeds The annual Wear Grey for a Day event at Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun-cae-gurwen has raised the sum of £100 for the Brainstrus­t charity; diolch i bawb am eich cefnogaeth.

School council Well done to Gwaun-cae-gurwen School Year 6 pupils Leon, Mason and Leah, who have been elected to lead the school council, to lead many of the councils during 2020-21. They will help each other to lead the ECO, Pupil Rights and Healthy Schoool Councils.

Meals on Wheels available Cwmamman Meals on Wheels can be provided from Garnant Golf Club, and the cost will be £5.50 per meal. Residents in Garnant, Glanamman, GCG, Tai’rgwaith, Brynamman and Cwmgors will be able to carry on using this important service through the autumn and winter.

Local volunteers wanted Could you volunteer and help Cwmaman Meals on Wheels deliver much-needed meals to the elderly and housebound in the Gwaun-cae-gurwen ,Cwmgors and Lower Brynamman locality? They are looking for helpers who could manage two shifts a week, on Thursdays and Fridays. Please get in touch with county councillor Kevin Madge on 01269 825438 if you are able to volunteer in any way on either day. Llyfrgell y Waun Nice to hear that Gwaun-cae-gurwen Community Library is opening a new order and collect service for local readers. You can phone up or go online to order your choices, before collecting them. Y Lolfa launched the service on September 9. Unfortunel­y, due to regulation­s, other library services,including using the computer equipment,is unavailabl­e at the moment. Other social activities,including Book clubs, French is Fun and Caffi Cymraeg,are available online on zoom. To order a book meanwhile, phone 07734 274086, email orders@gcglibrary.co.uk or visit the website gcglibrary.co.uk. Have your name, email or phone number and library membership number ready (new members can join via the website). For safety, library volunteers will pick and pack your books in a paper bag which will be quarantine­d for 72 hours, and customers will receive a picking up appointmen­t time (limited to Wednesdays and Saturdays only). Books can then be returned to the library,new ROAD,GCG to a drop off point for quarantine/cleaning. Flu jabs Ysgol Gwaun-cae-gurwen’s Reception to Year 6 pupils are due to receive their flu immunisati­ons on November 6. Consent letters are being sent to all parents;please return them promptly to the school if you can. After-school clubs Please note,there will be no after school clubs at Ysgol Gwaun-cae-gurwen until at least after October half-term.
