Covid-19 support group vow to keep the service running

-

BOSSES at Llandeilo’s Covid-19 support group have vowed to keep the service running throughout this current lockdown and beyond.

Since the start of the pandemic last year the group has gone above and beyond for the town and surrounding community.

In tandem with the food hub which has been delivering hampers to those in need, the support group has helped many in these tough times.

Christoph Fischer, volunteer co-ordinator at the support group, is reminding people to get in touch if they need help.

Mr Fischer said: “As we’re heading for another long lockdown with possibly even tougher restrictions coming, the Llandeilo volunteer group would like you to know that they are still here for you. If anyone needs any help with shopping, prescriptions, dog walking or any other tasks please call.

“We are asking people to please look after their neighbours where they can do so safely. Since March we have been supporting people in isolation, vulnerable people who were told to shield and people with the virus.

“People may not have kept our details since the summer and we’re keen to let them know that help is still available.”

Llandeilo mayor Owen James, who also volunteers with the support group, said the important thing to remember is that the community is there for each other in these challenging times.

He said: “You’re not alone, please don’t suffer in silence, get in touch.”

Morrisons supermarket in Carmarthen has also dished out supplies to the hub, which has a donations drive through at Llandeilo RFC, Cae William.

In addition, computer repair man Andrew Sharpe has been helping to fill a gap in laptop shortages among school children in the area.

Andrew, who runs Easypc, made a rallying call on social media for old laptops that were no longer being used or ones that might need minor repairs.

So far he has refurbished 12 laptops that have been donated to Llandeilo schools and given out to pupils in the area.
