Former chapel goes under the hammer at a bargain price
A STUNNING grade Iilisted former chapel with a huge amount of original features still intact is going up for auction at a bargain price.
Bethania Methodist Chapel, located in Carmarthen Road in the village of Ferryside, is being jointly auctioned off by Auction House South Wales and Morgan & Davies with a guide price of £75,000.
It is designed in the old Arts and Crafts style, and has original features including leaded glass fenestration, an organ, pitch pine pews, beamed ceilings, part quarry-tiled floors, and high panelled dividing doors with partstained glass leaded features.
Although upgrading is required throughout the property, it is considered an ideal opportunity for a future residential development.
Bethania Methodist Chapel was built in 1860 and rebuilt in 1911 in the sub-classical and Arts and Crafts style of the longwall entry type.
It was designed by architect John Howard Morgan of Carmarthen.
Auctioneer and director of Auction House South Wales, Marc Morrish, said: “It is an attractive building and is designed in the old Arts and Crafts style. We’re expecting there to be a lot
of interest.
“It is grade Ii-listed and there is a lot of original features including lovely leaded glass windows, a nice organ, high-quality beams and high panelled doors.”
Mr Morrish added: “Working with the local authority’s planning department, it could make one large detached residence, or failing that there could be scope to turn it into two.”
The property will be auctioned off on February 10 at noon.
