In memoriam Cwmgors Rugby Club has joined in offering condolence­s to the family and friends of one of the club’s former players and a very well-known local character, Martin Evans, fondly known to his friends as Fruity, at the age of 63. We will all miss him. RIP Fruity. Cwmgors RFC is also thinking of all the family following the recent passing away following a long illness of Keith Williams (Billy), and offer condolence­s to daughter Jacqui and all his family. Keith was also a former Cherries player and a former Cwmgors committeem­an, and also another great character and gent who will be sadly missed.

OBE honour Cwmgors RFC is pleased that Lee Hallam, founder of Linbrooke Services Ltd, one of the club’s past sponsors, has been honoured with an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list for championin­g the disadvanta­ged. A few from Cwmgors met Lee when we were in Sheffield on tour, and thank Lee for his support over the years.

New book club Y Lolfa/gcg Community Library, New Road is starting up a new once a month Zoom Book Club very soon; message us if you are interested in taking part in this virtual book club.

Meals on Wheels Particular­ly due to the new current lockdown period, any OAPS, families or individual­s who formerly received Meals on Wheels, and may be unable to get about who would possibly need meals delivered over the next months, please get in touch, so that nobody goes without through the next few difficult months. Contact councillor Kevin Madge on 825438 if you require help or other details. The cost is £5.50 per meal. Residents in Garnant, Glanaman, GCG, Tai’rgwaith, Brynaman and Cwmgors will be able to carry on using this important service through the winter. Volunteer helpers are still needed to help out; please get in touch with Cllr Madge on 01269 825438 if you can help. Volunteers wanted Could you help deliver Meals on Wheels to the elderly,shielding and those in need in the Gwaun-cae-gurwen, Cwmgors and Tai’rgwaith localities? Food bank Amman Valley Foodbank, GCG, thanks everyone who were able to help throughout a very difficult year for us all; we are very grateful. The food bank was reopening on January 8. We are packing more parcels than ever before,and so hope our lovely community will be able to help by donation the following items: tinned tomatoes/pasta sauce, lentils, beans and pulses, cereal, soup, pasta, rice, tinned meat, veg and fruit, UHT milk, toilet roll, biscuits, fruit juice, nappies, baby wipes, shampoo, soap and shower gel.

£600 donation so kind Just before Christmas, the Friends of Brynamman kindly donated £600 to Amman Valley Foodbank at Gwaun-cae-gurwen. Along with the chocolates kindly donated by the Tesco store, Ammanford, a gift of £10 and a box of chocolates provided a Christmas gift for some 50 children in the locality; well done all.

Prority post box In response to the increasing applicatio­n from residents in Bancffosfe­len and Crwbin for covid home test kits from the UK Government the main post box near the brow of Heol Y Banc has been designated as a ‘priority’ box for the mailing of completed tests. Pharmacy NHS flu jabs The local pharmacy offers free flu jabs for those over 65 along with the at risk groups. Free flu jabs are to be arranged for those aged 50 to 64. Outside these groups a flu jab is available, subject to supplies, for £12.50. Check online at well.co.uk/flu Covid volunteers Liaised by the community council more shopping volunteers are sought to help deliver groceries and/or medicines to the covid vulnerable. While there are a number of volunteers at present doing great service more assistance would be much valued.
