Carmarthen Sketch Club and Art Society
THIS has been the Carmarthen Sketch Club and Art Society’s 100th anniversary year. Their committee have kept members together with updates and art information and competitions to help keep them inspired.
As meetings have been cancelled at the Pontargothi Hall, they decided to sketch and paint at social gatherings each month; the first was in Aberglasney in September, Ferryside in October and the National Botanical Garden of Wales in November. Glorious weather prevailed for them on all three days and they enjoyed the scenery, refreshments and cake at each venue. It was so good to meet again and catch up after such a disruptive year. They all agreed how members look forward to a more normal routine in 2021 but appreciate it may be some time before this is possible. The committee have quite a programme put together and will soon be ready to welcome new members as soon as safe to do so. Even with lockdowns they have proved that it is possible to continue our hobby and with a little imagination and friendship, as well as so many beautiful places to visit within our reach, they can look forward to the continuation of Carmarthen Sketch Club and Art
Society well into the future.
A welcome boost to the club has come from the National Lottery Wales Community Fund. This will help them buy materials, equipment and support them to regain momentum in 2021.
So many galleries have suffered during the pandemic and will need our support in the coming months, so fingers crossed that, with the vaccines, the society will be able to have more freedom of movement.
