KIDWELLY BAG ANOTHER TITLE
KIDWELLY Town have retained the Llanelli and District Bowling League championship.
IT was made official following their final match of the season when they played Ammanford Park at Parc Stephens.
Winning on three rinks, with an overall difference of 13 shots, it means Kidwelly have now held the title for the last three seasons.
Elsewhere in the Premier division, Carmarthen’s bid to avoid relegation had its ups and downs.
On Friday evening they visited Dafen Welfare, who had already been relegated, and came away with 12 valuable points leaving them just two points behind Brynhyfryd.
With both teams having difficult matches the following day, nothing could be predicted.
Carmarthen’s visitors to St Peter’s were title-chasing Graig Merthyr who produced an outstanding display to win by more than 40 shots. Brynhyfryd made matters doubly sure by taking a 10-point win at the expense of Parc y Dre, sending Carmarthen down to division one next year.
The final relegation place from division one was decided on Tuesday when the two contenders – Tybie and New Lodge – met at Parc y Werin and it was visitors Tybie who took the honours, keeping them up for another year.
Saturday saw Gowerton host Loughor, who had already been crowned as divisional champions, and a five-shot victory for the home side has kept their promotion hopes alive.
They now have to play a rearranged game against Calsonic Wanderers, postponed because of the pandemic, to decide whether it is them or Burry Port who will be promoted next year.
In division two, Parc William visited Cross Hands in midweek and finished their season with an 11-shot win, putting them in a potential promotion place and also ensuring that Ty’rfran would be promoted before playing their final game on Saturday.
Chasing Parc William were Llangennech & Bryn, who needed to win against divisional champions Crusaders on Saturday.
The champions, however, were much too strong and Parc William will go up.
In the National Championships, currently being held at Llandrindod Wells, Graig Merthyr’s Ben
Matthews has made it through to the semi-finals of the Under-25 Singles following two excellent wins.
He faces Kristian Crocker of Gilfach.
