Family fun sports day Cross your fingers for a dry day on Saturday when the members of the fiesta committee and the sports club are jointly holding a sports day and picnic. Lots of activities to try and something suitable for all ages and abilities, a circuit training session, volleyball, races and much more as well as an opportunity to take a look at the fitness equipment inside the pavilion. Information on membership will be available. Bring your own seat and refreshments and let’s have a fun day out. Start time is 2pm.

WI meeting On entering the memorial hall for our first indoor meeting in 17 months there was a wow factor. The majority of members had not seen the newly decorated hall nor the refurbished flooring. Fourteen members and three guests, namely Deb Adcock, Judi Roberts and Cherie Shotbolt, were entertained, educated and appreciative of the illustrated talk entitled “lessons learned from pandemics” delivered so well by Rhys Emlyn. Rhys dressed as a character from the Black Death and was warmly thanked by Sue Robinson. The monthly letter outlined forthcoming events, with members paying particular attention to the celebration day at Pembrey and the tree celebration day at Aberglasney. The dragon which was made as part of a county-wide competition will be taken to Pembrey for judging and we owe a big thank you to Hilary Osmond who displayed it over many weeks in Osi’s Gallery. The eventual resting place for the dragon was discussed and the favoured position was in the Memorial Hall, in which case it would need to be framed.

With our 70th anniversary due to be celebrated on Wednesday, October 13, in the Mansion House, menu choices were made.

Venues for our Christmas dinner were also discussed, with a decision to be made next month. The Book Club restarts on Friday, October 15, with the Beekeepers of Aleppo the chosen book. Contact Carol if you are interested in joining the group. One point of debate was whether meetings should be held on Monday afternoons instead of the evenings and if approved a January start could be decided upon at our November AGM. Helen won the competition with the most words from ‘pandemic’, with Jan in second place and Carol in third.
