Sir Gâr Carmarthenshire Federation

-

SIR Gâr Carmarthenshire Federation held a fun-packed day on Saturday, September 18 at Pembrey Country Park.

This was a wonderful way to celebrate their 95th birthday as a Federation in Carmarthenshire. The weather was kind for this outdoor event and the members came out with one thought in mind – to enjoy the day and catch up with friends they hadn’t seen for some months.

Musical entertainment was provided by Carmarthen Ukulele band and a local brass band. There were other activities available, e.g. the steam railway.

There were six stalls run by WI groups; a cake stall; tombola; crafts, hobbies and books; accessories and fashion; garden produce and a raffle stall. These stalls plus information booths were dotted around the grounds and in the centre was a large tent.

Over the last few months dragons have been let lose around the county and for one day only they were rounded up and displayed in “the large tent”. Institutes through out Carmarthenshire were encouraged to create their own dragon.

These wonderful creatures were then hidden around the county and members were given clues to find their hiding places, all great fun and in the true sprit of the WI.

On Saturday they were rounded up and judged in “the large tent.” The winning WIS were: 1st Trap, 2nd Johnstown, 3rd Llansaint and

Highly Commended Llanseffan WI. No dragons were harmed during judging.

Thank you to everyone from the Membership Advisory Committee who organised the day; Anne Halborg (county chair), our special guest Anne Jones (chair of the National Federations of WIS) and all our members who made this such a special event.
