In-form Cwmamman put on a fine West End show

-

CWMAMMAN finally delivered the performance they had been threatening for a few weeks when they beat West End 4-1 on Friday in Ardal League South West.

Both sides were fully committed and within nine minutes Cwm were awarded a penalty when the Swansea side’s keeper Nick Pritchard clattered into a Cwm attacker as the ball came over. Ryan Thomas put it away for 1-0.

Cwm were getting the bulk of possession and a neat 1-2 between Ross Morgan and Nathan English released Adrian Hazelby, who fired just wide. Another great Morgan ball sent Ryan Hurlow away but his well-hit shot flew just over the bar.

Cwm were in control and Calem Rees and Hurlow again saw good efforts well saved by Pritchard.

West End were relying on quick breaks, and their winger Chappel Smith, who was a constant threat out wide, won a tackle and put the ball past the oncoming Nathan Mcneil into the corner for 1-1.

The second half started with Cwm on the attack and Kyle Ashford,

who created major problems throughout for West End, went on a run and cleverly curled the ball round the keeper to make it 2-1.

With Gareth Howarth and Terry Maynard dominant at centre-back and English and Elian Evans prompting attacks, the Blues continued to launch attacks, particularly as the injured West End keeper had been replaced by an outfield player in the 60th minute. His inexperience showed when a free-kick into the box was punched back into his own goal as he came through a group of players to clear.

The game was put to bed in the 66th minute with a brilliantly taken goal from Calem Rees, who flicked a pass from English over his shoulder and volleyed home.

There was time for a couple of impressive long distance attempts from Thomas and a great individual effort from Hurlow, while a late red card for two bookings saw Davies depart for West End.

Cwm will hope to maintain the momentum when they visit Caerau Ely this Saturday.
