OTTERS HIT TOP FORM IN NEW SEASON
NARBERTH have taken the Championship Cup by storm.
The Otters remained unbeaten in the group stages of the short competition devised by the WRU, which is aimed at getting teams back playing after the lengthy lay-off caused by the coronavirus emergency.
They won all four of their matches and finished 10 points clear of Trebanos. They are now waiting for confirmation of the second-round play-off dates and venues.
And the club believe much of the current success is down to the value placed in bringing through young talent.
One of the rising stars of the first team is George Macdonald. He is just 18 but has delivered two excellent performances at scrum-half which echo the exploits of his father Chris Macdonald.
Macdonald senior made his club debut in 1990 and went on to play more than 250 games before bowing out in 2007. He also played for Swansea and Llanelli, and also figured for the Scarlets.
Other youngsters in the 16-18 age group are also showing promise, and beat Fishguard 20-10.
The bigger Fishguard side started strongly, but Narberth Youth weathered the early onslaught, and two
well-taken tries by Owen Llewellyn put them 10-0 up at the break.
The visitors continued using their bigger pack after the break, but again Narberth stood strong. The young Otters scored another excellent try through Yori Morgan which clinched victory.
Morgan, Brad Cramb, Llewellyn and Tom Monk all stood out, but Harri Harries took the man-of-thematch award.
The club’s under-9s have also been put through their paces. At the end of a training session they had a session of two 20-minute halves against a Whitland team, with fast, elusive running shown by both sides.
