Deputy minister to visit Welsh Government Deputy Minister and local MS Lee Waters is arranging to meet with local councillor Richard Selwood to view the long complained of lack of traffic safety measures in Pontyberem. Highlighted in surveys conducted by Councillor Selwood are the lack of 20mph signs for Furnace Terrace, no calming measure along Coalbrook Road, Station Road, Heol Capel Ifan, where the flashing speeding sign has not worked for weeks, and Heol y Felin. It is understood county councillor Liam Morganbowen of the Carmarthenshire ruling group responsible for road safety has asked to be in attendance.

Park flooding On September 28 heavy rainfall and a build-up of debris caught in the village park culvert grid resulted in serious flooding. Swirling muddy water quickly banked back and cascaded over the trench and poured over the car park; for a time the torrent covered the work area, set up the day before, for river embankment repair and reinforcement work following last year’s erosion and collapse of land into the Gwendraeth Fawr. Two residents risked their own safety by raising the grid to allow debris and flood water to course into the river. From around 9pm a car raced into the recreation ground car park and for some five minutes performed handbrake wheelies spraying up mud and water from the drenched ground; a request to view CCTV footage of this grievous incident has been requested for further action to be taken. Whether this latest flood will hinder the need to complete the river embankment work before the river authority deadline of October 13 is a matter of widespread concern.
