Llanddarog & District WI
At the September meeting Marion welcomed members and our speaker the Rev Dewi Roberts. Apologies were taken and the minutes of the last meeting raed approved and signed.
The 95th celebration at Pembrey Counry Park had been enjoyed by Sandra, Margaret and Marion with thanks to Gwyn and Charles for transporting us. The event held in the village hall in support of the WI and the climate change coalition on September 25 when members appreciated and thanked all those who attended, highlighted this important issue and the responsibility of each of us within it. The monthly newsletter was perused and of note Debbie had won first place within the county for her entry to the Lady Denman Cup. Debbie read her entry for us, which was appreciated by everyone and congratulations extended to her. We were very disappointed that the celebration of trees to be held at Aberglasney Gardens had been cancelled by the gardens, as it was very popular with WI members.
Carol, Margaret M, Eirlys, Jean and Marion had travelled to
Ammanford on the local bus service on September 7 to use this essential service and enjoyed the excursion in wonderful sunshine. It was suggested that members meet at the Falcon Hotel for afternoon tea on the 28th and will be contacted accordingly by Margaret. The play Keeping up Appearances at Ffwrnes Theatre in November was also brought to members attention.
The craft fair to be held at the Clwyd Glamorgan Hall in late November was noted, including the items for WI members in handicrafts and cookery.
Our vicar spoke of his life in the ministry travelling from Aberystwyth to Llandudno, Bridgend, and Newcastle Emlyn before taking up residence in Llanddarog vicarage, where he is greatly appreciated.
A raffle with a difference followed when a number of donations given by Debbie were drawn, Carol, Elizabeth, Gill, Eirlys. Sandra having winning tickets. Our thanks to Debbie for her generosity. The November meeting as usual will be the AGM on the 3rd of the month.
