A fast start pays off for Carmarthen

-

A FINE performance from Carmarthen Ladies Hockey Club’s first XI saw them claim a 5-1 win at Milford.

From the first whistle Carmarthen were keen to get going, with many shots going wide. Forwards Sara Evans, Anna Heath, Bethany James and Megan Henry worked tirelessly to create chances.

Lovely balls were fired into the D from Catrin Soons, Lucy Davies, Rhian Moreman and Ffion Church. The pressure soon told as Carmarthen opened up a two-goal advantage. Milford hit back, but the visitors struck again before the break to make it 3-1.

The Carmarthen defence of Ffion Evans, Leia Thomas, Ffion Dart and Scarlett Mckenzie Jones resisted Milford after the break, with keeper Lowri Davies a spectator for much of the time.

And another two goals sealed a comfortable victory for Carmarthen. Heath and Church picked up the player of the match awards.

James and Moreman scored two goals each, with Henry getting the other.

Carmarthen Seconds drew 1-1 at home with Bridgend.

From the first whistle Carmarthen put pressure on Bridgend and the tactic worked as midfielder Bella Witt found Poppy Mackenzie-jones, who opened the scoring.

However, Bridgend upped their game in the second period and were rewarded with an equaliser.

Carmarthen’s players of the match were Kate Howell and Witt.

Carmarthen’s third XI enjoyed a superb 7-2 win at Caron in Lampeter.

Goals were scored by Ffion Evans, Laura Thomas, Charlotte Harries and Kate Howell.

Youngsters Lia Summers – who was player of the match – Cira Thomas, Ruby Shaw, Seren Baldwin and Eva Harries all shone in a fine performance.

Defenders Ellie Routley and Emily Stibbs also showed up well.

Carmarthen’s men beat Llan & Caerphilly 2-0 as they extended their unbeaten start to the league season.

Early in the second half, some excellent play from Carmarthen saw Tom Ferguson score from a shot that sailed over his brother in the Caerphilly goal.

The game was put to bed late on when a ball from midfielder Osian Evans flew into the D, and top scorer Ferguson was on hand again to convert.

Man of the match spoils were shared between Ryan Carvey and Ferguson.

Carmarthen will look to maintain their unbeaten run at Fishguard in their next game.
