Let’s all be sensible to save our Christmas

- Council leader Emlyn Dole POLITICALLY CORRECT

THIS time last year we were heading into the Christmas period not knowing whether or not we’d be in lockdown, and indeed the Llanelli area had been put into local restrictions.

Who’d have thought at that point that we’d be seeing much higher rates of Covid-19 infection in the county as we headed towards another Christmas?

Thankfully, the vaccine is now offering good personal protection from severe illness from the virus, and fewer people are being hospitalised with Covid-19 than we were seeing before.

However, it is vital to note that the vaccine does not prevent you catching the virus or passing it on to others, and so we must continue to take extra care, especially now that there are very few restrictions and events and gatherings are taking place.

At the moment we are seeing very high case rates across the Amman Valley and in smaller communities like St Clears.

So, to stop the spread, we must reiterate the basics: please go and get your booster jab if you have been invited; keep a distance from others when socialising and try to meet outdoors if possible; wear a face covering where you need to; wash your hands regularly; and stay at home if you are feeling unwell.

If you are experiencing any of the Covid symptoms, or have symptoms of a cold or flu, please book a test. Don’t forget that if you are vaccinated you may only experience mild symptoms, which is good news, but you could still be spreading it to others.

Let’s look after each other and help bring these high numbers down again. None of us want another Christmas affected by restrictions.
