Ammanford get lucky as Stamp seals late victory

-

AMMANFORD AFC Reserves defeated Trefelin BGC Reserves 2-1 in FAW Cymru Reserves South West.

It was a lively game with both teams wanting to get forward at every opportunity.

For Ammanford, Nico Sofiu caused problems for the Trefelin defence with his trickery and pace, while on the opposite flank Kyle Grazette also probed the visitors.

Ammanford’s best chances in the first half resulted in two goal-line clearances in quick succession by the Trefelin defence which denied Ammanford a lead which their play deserved.

Ammanford midfielders Grant Stamp, Alexander Arnold and Anthony Finselbach were all having decent games.

But Trefelin’s defensive lines stood firm and at half-time the game remained goalless.

Trefelin started the second half in improved fashion and posed more of a threat going forward, but they were rocked back on their heels when Ammanford were awarded a penalty in the 58th minute.

Despite protests, Stamp stepped forward and blasted the spot-kick into the roof of the net to give his team the lead.

Trefelin got themselves back in the game with some fine attacking play and were rewarded for their efforts in the 75th minute when Mccauley Power equalised with a well-taken goal.

Ammanford’s second-half substitutes Cian Williams and Timothy Chapman, playing out wide, were as effective as their two pacemen in the first half as both sides went in search of a winner.

The game looked to be heading for a draw, but a minute into stoppage time a Stamp shot somehow found its way into the Trefelin net after deflections off the defenders in front of the goalkeeper wrong-footed him.

Not long afterwards the final whistle blew.
