Comedy with jeopardy and a pinch of panto

-

FOR nearly two years the Attic Theatre in Newcastle Emlyn has been empty due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the performing arts.

However, despite these times of turmoil over the last 20 months, all this is about to change.

The company of performers at the Attic Theatre group have announced that their doors are about to be thrown open once again for a new production called Rats! The family-friendly show has been written especially for this talented amateur dramatics company and runs for just five shows between December 8 and 11.

It is an energetic comedy with music, a jot of jeopardy and a pinch of panto.

The show’s writer Melanie Davies said: “We are so lucky to have such supportive audiences for Attic Theatre’s work.

“After such a long time and all the difficulties of Covid-19, I wanted to write something for them, that would send everyone home laughing, with a bellyfull of great live theatre.”

Attic Theatre is a little gem of a space, with 84 seats it is quite an intimate theatre, entirely run by its volunteer members.

It sits upstairs in Cawdor Hall in the middle of Newcastle Emlyn and the history of the company goes back to 1932.

Initially one play per year was staged and it also toured the local area.

It entered and won many drama competitions and gave performances for charity.

There was no break, even during the war years, when many young men were away in the forces.

The company rehearsed in a variety of places in the town until it settled in Cawdor Hall in 1973, where it has remained.

Tickets for Rats! and further information on Covid-19 requirements for attendance can be found on the Attic Theatre website.
