Impressive Otters prove much too hot for Tata

-

NARBERTH moved into fifth in the early Admiral National Championship table following an impressive win at Tata Steel.

The Otters lost to Neath in their opening league game of the season, but here they were in fine form as they coasted to a 42-20 bonus-point success.

In One West, Llangennech pipped Gorseinon 26-20 in a close affair that saw the away side eventually emerge victorious.

Going into the break 14-6 up, Llangennech managed to keep a spirited Gorseinon at bay to move three points clear at the top of the table.

Aberystwyth edged out Whitland 31-28 in a thriller on the windswept west coast to move into second place.

Crymych’s 34-21 triumph over Pembroke moved them into third.

Llanelli Wanderers claimed their first league victory of the season when they saw off Gowerton 34-10.

In One West Central, Brynaman went down 29-3 at home to Glynneath.

The early leaders in Two West are Burry Port, who beat Tenby United 27-21. Carmarthen Athletic’s 9-8 defeat of Pontarddulais puts them second.

It was honours even at Parc y Werin where Cwmgors maintained their unbeaten start in Three West Central A with a 17-17 draw with Cwmavon.

However, nerves were jangling at the end after the visitors scored a last-gasp try, only to miss the conversion.

The hosts took the lead after 15 minutes with a well-worked try by Rob Clive.

Andrew Mason added the conversion.

However, the visitors soon hit back with a converted try, but the Cherries managed to get some momentum going and soon earned due reward with a second try before the interval when Joseff Davies went over.

The visitors claimed the next score with another well-worked try to level matters, but an entertaining affair turned again when Mike Jones powered over the line to regain the home side’s lead.

But the Cherries failed to put the game to bed and they were punished when they leaked that late try. The conversion failed and a draw was probably a fair result.

In Three West B, Amman United slipped to a second successive defeat as they lost 12-0 at home to Trimsaran.

A strong driving line-out led to a penalty try and Trimsaran finished the job with a second try later on.
