FERGIE’S GOAL RESCUES POINT

CARMARTHEN Men’s Hockey Club drew 1-1 with Neath Seconds in a league match.

Both teams were looking to keep fine runs going. Carmarthen were undefeated at home this season, while Neath had won all six of their matches.

The teams set a relentless pace, with an early goal for Carmarthen disallowed having been deemed to not hit the backboard from a short corner.

Carmarthen continued to apply pressure, and an opening goal came from an incisive pass from midifelder

Osian Evans, which found top scorer Tom Ferguson. He duly buried the ball in the bottom corner, and the hosts led at half-time.

Neath upped the tempo even further in the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser from a spectacula­r piece of individual play.

The game remained tight, with both keepers forced into excellent saves, while Carmarthen were denied by the woodwork on two occasions.

Ferguson was named man of the match for his exploits in the final third.

Carmarthen look to end the first half of their season on a high at Swansea 6ths in their next game.

There was double success for Carmarthen Ladies’ second team, who won twice on the road in successive days.

The first victory came as they eased to a 6-1 win at Whitchurch Saints 6ths.

Carmarthen controlled play from the outset, holding Saints high with defenders Scarlett Mackenzie-jones, Ellie Routley, Emily Stibbs and Delyth Rees cutting out breaks and midfielder­s Tirion Evans, Kate Howell,

Bella Witt, Poppy Mackenzie-jones and Phoebe Burton creating plenty of chances.

After some excellent saves from the keeper, Carmarthen finally broke through to score and the first half ended 1-0.

Forwards Maya Davies, Charlotte Harries and Yasmin Burgess-williams played some excellent onetwos after the break and their efforts were rewarded as Carmarthen scored five more goals to round off a convincing win.

Whitchurch broke away for a consolatio­n which denied the visitors a clean sheet.

Davies bagged a hat-trick, player of the match Burgess-williams scored twice and Howell also netted.

And Carmarthen followed up with a 4-2 win at Pembrokesh­ire Seconds in a cup match.

The visitors opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes and some fine play saw them end the opening half 3-0 ahead.

Carmarthen continued to play well, but Pembrokesh­ire upped their game and managed to break through twice to make the score 3-2.

Finally, Carmarthen scored again to give themselves a little breathing space and defenders Leia Thomas, Delyth Rees and Ellie Routley kept Pembrokesh­ire out of their D and the match ended 4-2.

Goals were scored by Charlotte Harries, player of the match Siriol Richards (2) and Tirion Evans.

The seconds entertain Fishguard on Saturday.

STRIKER Tom Kathrens capped an outstandin­g display with a hat-trick for Seaside, who climbed off the foot of the Premier division of the LTC Mobility Carmarthen­shire League and out of the relegation zone following a stunning 7-2 win at home to Pengelli United.

Ross Jones scored on his debut for Seaside, and there were also goals for Dai Hughes (penalty), Ben Honeybun and Nathan Lewis.

Pontlliw beat Loughor Rovers 4-1. Ben Higgins scored two, with Adam Scott and Lewis Gibbs also on target. Darren Burt netted for Loughor.

There is no change at the top of division one, with leaders Felinfoel remaining nine points clear of secondplac­ed Pwll Athletic after a comfortabl­e 4-0 win at Llandeilo Town.

In extending their unbeaten record to 12 games, Theo Benjamin and Adrian Tucker scored a couple of goals each for Felinfoel.

Pwll Athletic were at home to Kidwelly Town and also won 4-0. Ian Williams netted twice, and there were goals for Darren Blake and Daniel Harding.

Just when it looked as if Llangennec­h might be heading for a shock defeat at home to lowly Bancffosfe­len, Alex Davies rescued a point for the hosts with a penalty in the 89th minute.

Also on target was Callum Morgan, and the game finished 2-2.

It was also honours even in the Gwendraeth Valley derby between Drefach and visiting Tumble United, which finished 2-2.

A couple of goals by Jordan Thomas weren’t quite enough to secure maximum points, with his efforts being cancelled out by Garin Morris and Aled Owens.

In division two, Caerbryn made ground advantage count against Ammanford Town A when winning 6-0.

After getting the better of the midfield duel, Caerbryn stamped their authority on proceeding­s with goals from Rhys Morgan, Joel Lewis, Olly Dymond, Iwan Easton, Simon James and Carwyn Morris.

Carmarthen Town United produced arguably their best performanc­e of the season, moving off the foot of the table following a deserved 4-1 win at home to Pontarddul­ais Town Reserves.

Cameron Jones struck twice, and there were also goals for Jake Ashley Jones and Josh Edwards.

Striker Stewart Hemingway fired in six goals for second-placed West End United in their 10-3 win at home to KRUF.

The other goals were shared equally between Curtis Evans and James Doel.

Trostre Sports AFC closed the gap on reserve division one leaders Loughor Rovers to two points without kicking a ball.

With visitors Gorseinon Athletic failing to raise a team, Trostre were awarded a 4-0 win.

In reserve division two, striker Nicky Morgan scored four of the goals for Felinfoel in the 5-2 win against Camford Sports. A fifth was scored by Sean Edwards, while Damion Walters replied with both Camford goals.

Striker Owen Flowers makes a habit of scoring, but on this occasion his goal wasn’t enough for Caerbryn in a 3-1 defeat away to Burry Port A in reserve division three.

Although there wasn’t much to choose between the teams, Port eventually proved the stronger and secured the points with goals from Jarrad Edwards, Darren Pulman and Mohammed Zuhayr Ibrahim.

It has been an excellent season so far for Drefach A, for whom Liam Thomas shone with a hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Llangennec­h A.

Lewys Jones scored a fourth for Drefach, with Leeroy Basaka hitting back for the hosts.

Loughor Rovers A beat Johnstown Reserves 2-1. Dave Mcewan and Sam Coady scored for Loughor.

Dafen went down 5-0 at home to South Gower in the West Wales Premier League.

Jack Jones scored a hat-trick for the Scurlage side, and in the process overtook Mark Howells of Evans & Williams in the race for the Golden Boot award.
