Pub reopens after revamp; 17% pay rise proposed for councillors

-

CARMARTHEN Wetherspoons pub Yr Hen Dderwen has reopened following a massive £2m revamp which includes a new roof garden. Here are some of your views . . .

Hannah Pointon Just in time for the freezing weather.

Chris Hilson It will come in very handy for the wonderful sunny blistering weather we get here in Carmarthen.

Morwen Davies Hope they have bolted everything down with the weather that’s predicted.

Shelley Beech Griffiths Looks fantastic! What a pity it’s a Wetherspoons.

Mike Aldrich Looks really good!!! Not the best day to open though!!!

VOTERS might blame prospective councillors for a huge pay rise coming their way when they knock on doors ahead of next year’s elections, a councillor has warned. A body has recommended councillors in Wales get a £16,800 basic salary from May next year - a rise of 16.9%. You said . . .

Robin Griffiths Hand it back please. you know that’s the best way in these troubled times.

Tim Mcdermott Genuine question – does anyone think 16,800 is a ‘generous wage’? Its nowhere near attractive enough to make it a viable career for anyone that isn’t either independently wealthy or retired.

Eddie Clements They don’t deserve £10,000 per year!

Adrian Miller It’s never been a full-time job. It’s a voluntary role. Meirion Thomas Mbe Non-exec members on companies get around £50k year and they would do far more work that a councillor does as a second job. This is a good pay and some of them attend very few meetings.

Paul Kelly Give it to the nurses and care workers.

Emma Evans Is the NHS having a 17% pay rise? I don’t think so.

Peter Adams What people do not realise is that councillors have no control over pay. It’s determined by an independant body.

Mark Gaynor As long as it’s pro rata i.e. they are paid by the hour they work and not just a flat rate regardless I see no issue with it. Gareth Morgan Ridiculous.
