Bereavement A well-known and much-liked former Ammanford lady has sadly passed away at the age of 95. Mrs Peggy Laugharne formerly lived at Hall Street, Ammanford, up until seven years ago, when she moved to Garnant to live with her son Howard and daughter-in-law Mariel. Born and bred on Cwmamman Road, Garnant, Peggy was the daughter of the late Isaac and Mary Ann Thomas. The widow of the late Mr Raymond Laugharne, Peggy was a well-known character in and around Ammanford and its business community. Probably best known for Laugharne’s China Shop located on Quay Street, Ammanford, for many years, they were also mine hosts at the former Perrivale Inn, Pontaman, also providing cover at many other hostelries around the Amman Valley over the years. Latterly, Peggy and her family owned several bookmakers’ outlets in Swansea and the Amman Valley before her retirement. Our deepest sympathy is expressed to Peggy’s son Howard, daughter-in-law Mariel and grandchildren Karen, Sharon and James on their sad loss. Peggy was also a loving great-grandmother of six boys. The funeral will be on Thursday, December 16 at Llanelli Crematorium at 2pm.

Capel Hendre OAP branch has sympathised with the family of our former minutes secretary Mr Eneurin Evans who has passed away; thoughts are with his wife Nancy and all the family. Several members are still on waiting lists for various surgical procedures, others are home after recent hospital treatment. Many of us have also already had our booster vaccines.

Dignified service The recent Remembrance Day service at Betws Park was attended by many members of the public, also pupils from Years 5 and 6 of Ysgol Betws, and representatives from Ammanford Air Force Cadets 2475 Squadron, Neighbourhood Policing Team PCSO 8039 Arwyn Rees and members of the local fire brigade; there were also county and community councillor Mrs B Jones, the Rev Nick Barroccu, assistant curate, Betws and Ammanford, Bro Amman LMA, Mrs J

Picouto, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, and community councillor Mrs A Price. It was a very dignified service.

Llandybie Mothers’ Union met for the first time in 18 months recently at the parish church where Annie Rees warmly welcomed everyone back. Get better wishes were extended to Marjut Griffiths, Diane Nicholson and Iona James. Congratulated were Margretta and her husband who had celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary earlier this year. Anne stated that the Plant Dewi charity remains very grateful for the kind donations of baby bundles. Many thanks also to all who have filled mugs for Mission to Seamen. Our Christmas dinner has been delayed until the new year due to the celebration dinner held on December 2 at the Red Lion. The Christmas angels we all knitted last year will be presented to pupils of Ysgol Llandybie this month.
