Barbara (“Babs”) , a lovely lady and well liked by everyone, resided at Tircoed Road, Glanaman, previously and formerly worked at the old Cyc-arc factory, Maesybont, Glanaman, during her working life. A loving sister, aunt, great-aunt and great-greataunt, she will be sadly missed, and we send our sympathy to all Barbara’s family. The funeral was on December 10 at Llanelli Crematoriu­m; donations towards West Wales Poundies and Wales Air Ambulance are being accepted by undertaker­s Hywel Griffiths & Sons, 39, Betws Road, Betws. Y Pantri Gymunedol (The Community Shop) at the Community Centre, High Street, Glanamman, is now open on Fridays from noon to 3pm. For a small subscripti­on and weekly cost, members will have access to low-cost food, both store cupboard and fresh fruit and veg. Membership is open to anyone in the Cwmamman community.

Toybox Appeal Garnant Family Centre is taking part in Carmarthen­shire Council’s Christmas Toybox Appeal. Lots of families are struggling currently due to rising costs and the impact of the pandemic, whether they are working or not. British Legion meeting The next meeting of the Garnant branch of the Royal British Legion will be held at Garnant Club lounge tomorrow at 7.30pm; new members are very welcome. Gardening Club meets on the second Friday of the month at the Resource Centre, Glanaman;

Birthday news Best wishes to Mr Ron Beale, of Cwmamman Road, Garnant, on the occasion of his 81st birthday today.

Bethel Newydd, Garnant Dydd Sul: Gwasanaeth Nadolig, gyda’r Parchedig Glan Roberts, Tycroes (Cymundeb yn y bore). Bereavemen­t Mrs Peggy Laugharne, of Cwmamman Road, Garnant has passed away, peacefully at home on November 25, at the age of 95. Peggy formerly lived at Hall Street, Ammanford, up until seven years ago, when she moved to Garnant to live with her son Howard and daughter-in-law Mariel. Born and bred on Cwmamman Road, Garnant, Peggy was the daughter of the late Isaac and Mary Ann Thomas. The widow of the late Mr Raymond Laugharne, Peggy was well known in and around Ammanford and its business community. Probably best known for their Laugharne’s China Shop located on Quay Street, Ammanford, for many years, they were also mine-hosts at the former Perrivale Inn, Pontaman, also providing cover at many other hostelries around the Amman Valley over the years.latterly, Peggy and her family owned several bookmakers’ outlets in Swansea and the Amman Valley before her retirement. Our deepest sympathy is expressed to Peggy’s son Howard, daughter-in-law Mariel and grandchild­ren Karen, Sharon and James on their sad loss. Peggy was also a loving greatgrand­mother of six boys. The funeral will be on Thursday, December 16, at Llanelli Crematoriu­m at 2pm.
