Switch on to some great gifts

WANT TO SPLASH THE CASH ON GADGETS THIS CHRISTMAS? TRY THIS LITTLE LOT...

- CONNOLLY Technology Editor

JUSTIN

AT this time of year it’s customary to spend more than we want, eat more than we want, and drink more than we want.

We can’t help you with the last two, but the first is our speciality… when it comes to shiny new tech, at least – it’s our job to make sure you don’t waste your money, however much you spend.

So welcome to the first of our three-part festive gift guide – this one is for those who don’t mind splashing out a little.

Next week we’ll be looking at the best tech that comes in under £300, with our final instalment a week later offering up some ideas with prices under

£100.

65in TCL ROKU TV

With a 65” screen, this

TV is the perfect gift for serial streamers and gamers. It’s the product of a collaboration with makers of affordable-yet-highquality TVS TCL and Roku, which makes smart TV streaming devices and software.

Getting your hands on a smart TV isn’t hard these days, but there are several platforms on the market. Roku’s is up there with the very best, and it’s that software that powers this TV.

It’s great for gamers, with auto console recognition and a good screen, and great for streamers as it offers access to all the top TV and film services. There are smaller versions of the same TV for less, but we go big or go home.

SONY WH-1000XM4 HEADPHONES

As we close in on a couple of years of enforced anti-social behaviour, we’re all getting out and about in the world a little more… at least for now.

If you’re finding things are a little bit, well, noisy out there, a solid pair of noise-cancelling headphones are a must. You can also listen to music on them.

The noise-cancelling on these beauties is second to none, but is also adjustable so you can let the outside world in when you have to, without missing a beat.

DJI MAVIC MINI 2 DRONE

We all know by now that DJI makes the best drones, and if you want to get in on the fashion for aerial video photography you needn’t look any further than its website.

This year DJI upped the image quality ante with its new Mavic 3 drone – but that comes at a high price. The entry-level Mini 2 is the place to start, with 4K video, 30-minute flytime, and solid windresistance, you’re limited only by your own imagination.

FUJIFILM X-E3

Fujifilm’s X line of cameras has matured into a great range of very high-quality cameras that produce images that look as good as the cameras themselves.

The X-E3 is at the more affordable end of the line, competing with the X100 range that has now become THE small fixed-lens camera to have in your pocket.

The X-E3 is actually smaller than the X100, but offers the flexibility of interchangeable lenses, and it looks very cool indeed. Obviously the internals are all there – a 26.1 MP X-trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-processor 4, 4k video recording, a 3in 180 degree tilting LCD touchscreen, and 18 very usable film simulation modes.
