Teenager’s kicks a worldwide hit

“I HAVEN’T smashed a window yet!”

Welsh teenager Tomos Evans is attracting serious attention on Tiktok for his incredible rugby kicks in his own back garden.

The 14-year-old, who is from Newcastle Emlyn, has been executing some phenomenal conversions from seemingly impossible angles, and his efforts aren’t going unnoticed in Tiktok’s rugby community.

One of his best-performing videos captures him launching an incredible kick over his parents’ house which then curls through a set of rugby posts in a nearby field. It is jaw-dropping stuff.

This particular video has amassed over 175,000 views – and it’s not just a one-hit wonder, with other videos showing Tomos emulating Dan Carter’s famous banana kick conversion in the wind.

Tomos has been mastering his craft for roughly five or six years. His father, Meirion, who built the posts for him a couple of years ago in the field near their house, explained just how much work goes into such a remarkable talent.

“He spends hours and hours and hours out there. That’s all he will do in school holidays and on weekends, if there’s no games or training,” he said.

The Ceredigion County player says his mates are aware of his videos and have even tried to emulate his efforts. And despite kicking the conversions over the family home, Tomos insists that there have been no smashed windows yet – a testament to his phenomenal accuracy.

His next planned trick shot is to pull off an audacious conversion directly from the try line – similar to curling a football into the net from a corner kick.

The Newcastle Emlyn boy remains modest, with dad Meirion saying he hasn’t got carried away with his phenomenal Tiktok viewership.

“He’s shown me clips on his phone, but he is so modest that he doesn’t make any big deal out of it at all,” he said.

“We’re a modest family, we don’t really talk about video hits and things like that. He does it because that’s his thing, that’s what he enjoys doing.”

Tomos is doing pretty well in rugby outside of the social media whirlwind. One of his coaches has encouraged the family to consider sending him to the famous Millfield School in England in order to further his rugby career.

“We’ve been advised to take him over the bridge,” said Meirion.

“When he’s in sixth form, we’ll maybe look at getting him to a college in England. Whatever he needs, we will support him.

“He’s doing pretty well at the moment, to be fair to him. He’s pretty good!”

A whole new audience will get to witness the teen’s phenomenal kicking talents live on Sunday when his Newcastle Emlyn side play Crymych in a local cup final at Parc y Scarlets.
