MARION warmly welcomed members and the speaker for the evening Paul Raven. Paul constructed four flower arrangements: a hand-tied bouquet, an Ikebana arrangement, a naturalised form emerging from three tea pots, with a nod to his business Tea Traders in Nott Square, Carmarthen, and finally a magnificent arrangement in oasis of white lilies, Viburnum plicatum, with an array of greenery.

Paul will display the latter arrangement in Tea Traders for everyone to enjoy. Paul spoke of his road through his career as a horticulturist and flower arranger, from North Wales to London, to Venice and many more destinations before setting up business in Carmarthen with his partner. Pam thanked him on behalf of everyone for demonstrating so beautifully the skill which she herself enjoys.

Refreshments were then served and a number of items discussed following the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved and signed. A letter which Sandra had received from Marylyn as chair of the membership advisory committee was read to members. Though this was appreciated, members’ minds were unchanged. It had been confirmed that the Llanddarog Show would take place on June 25 and the Institute would attend the event. Sandra had attended a Federation meeting regarding the production of cakes, etc, for retail and the dangers involved to people with allergies so it was decided not to produce cakes this year but to have other attractions.

Margaret had been in contact with Taf Valley Coaches and confirmed members going to Abergavenny would be picked up at the village square bus stop at 9am next Tuesday. A committee meeting will be held on the 13th at 2pm in Marion’s home. On June 13 members will visit Tea Traders to learn more about tea and sample tea being produced in Cowbridge, which is greatly anticipated.

The meeting was concluded with the drawing of the raffle won by Margaret M.

The next meeting will be on June 1 when Lesley Cutler, The Pearl Lady, will be the speaker, at 7pm in the village hall committee room.
