-

A YOUNG Carmarthen Wanderers second XI produced a much-improved performance as they lost by 54 runs at Mumbles in the South Wales Premier League West 2nd XI division.

Mumbles batted first and looked in all sorts of trouble at 27-5.

Eddie Byng ripped the heart out of the home side’s top order as he claimed the excellent career-best figures of 6-35 off seven overs.

Byng was well supported at the other end by the wily Steff Jones, who once again bowled well as he bagged 2-16 off nine overs.

Mumbles recovered during the middle part of the innings and they ended up posting a healthy 190 all out.

Under-13 players Louie Connick and Cai Griffiths both picked up wickets and Zac Harley then bowled well at the death.

The Wanderers run chase got off to an excellent start, with Andrew Harley hitting 21 and Steff Jones a patient 31.

Carl Holding added 23, but wickets began to fall at regular intervals as the Mumbles bowlers began to exert their authority.

Byng and Connick both made double figures as the Wanderers slipped to 136 all out.

The Wanderers host Llanelli this weekend.

Ammanford’s second XI were defeated by six wickets at Swansea.

Batting first, Ammanford were all out for 98 inside 30 overs, the bulk of those runs coming from Cellan Allcock (56) and Iestyn Jones (25).

Pontarddulais registered their second win of the campaign as they beat Ynysygerwn by 266 runs.

Opener Lewis Edwards led the way for Bont as his 141 helped his side to 304-6 in their 45 overs.

The Neath Valley outfit’s response never got out of first gear as their batting collapsed and they were were dismissed for a miserable 38.

Pontarddulais, who head the early table, make the trip to Neath on Saturday.
