CRUSADERS SEAL MAIN DRAW SPOT
CRUSADERS Bowls Club have become the first team from the Carmarthenshire sections to qualify for this year’s open draw in the National Club Championship.
Playing in Section 5, which only had three competing teams, their visit to Blue Anchor on Saturday afternoon resulted in a big win and sees them qualifying for the second year in succession.
Both Carmarthen and Graig Merthyr produced sizeable wins in Section 1 and, as long as Graig get past Gorseinon in their home match this weekend, the team going through will be decided in two weeks when they meet at St Peter’s.
Another section poised to be settled in the final matches at the end of the month is Section 2, which is likely to see a decider between Ammanford Park and Burry
Port.
Last year it was Burry Port who qualified, but the tables could well be turned this year when Park host the match.
Similarly in Section 3, Havelock Park and Parc y Dre are heading for a final showdown in Morfa as both remain undefeated in this year’s qualifiers.
League champions Kidwelly Town lead Section 4 and a win at home to Pontarddulais this Saturday will put them through.
Llanelli lead Section 6 following a 21-shot win at home to Brynhyfryd on Saturday.
They now need to beat visiting Loughor this Saturday to go through to the national draw. This should prove to be a close game as Loughor have started their season well, winning their opening two league matches following their return to the Premier division this year.
