In 2002 Carmarthen Tywi Rotary Club arranged their inaugural charity golf day so it was pleasing to see on this 21st occasion so many attending who have faithfully supported the event in each of the intervening years.

It was an especially happy occasion to welcome Handel Jones to hand out the prizes to the winning teams and individuals as it was Handel who was club president back in 2002.

Though the wind made playing conditions tricky, the 18 teams entered enjoyed the day. Thanks go to Carmarthen Golf club staff both green keepers, professional and bar/ restaurant staff for enjoyed that the golf and hospitality was to the usual superb standard. Club captain Huw Michael was generous in his words of welcome to Tywi Rotary and all those playing the competition.

Thanks need to go to the sponsors Redkite Law, A Dean Carpets, Davies

Crane Hire, SIP Wealth Management, Day’s Motor Park Haverfordwest, Infinity Document Solutions and John Francis Estate Agents. Without these companies kind donations the event would not be as successful in raising valuable funds to local charities.

The winners were the Towy Works team with £500 to be donated to their nominated charity Epilepsy Wales.

Second were Davies Chemists with £300 to be donated to their nominated charity Prostrate Cymru.

Third were the New Stags Head 1 team with £200 to be donated to their nominated charity the

Gwenllian Ward (Acute Stroke Unit) at Glangwili Hospital.

David Crane entered the best Rotarian card thereby winning the H&E Jones Shield. This shield was donated by Handel Jones as Rotary President in 2002.

Winner of the drive closest the whit line on the 18th was Alun Davis (Carmarthen Captains team) and closest the pin on the 9th winner was Tommy Williams (New Stags Head).

It was also great to welcome the only all female team of the day from New Stags Head. Next year’s event is already booked for Friday, June 2, 2023.
