Llanddarog & District WI

AT the June meeting Marion welcomed members, guest Jenny and the speaker, ‘The Pearl Lady’ Lesley Cutler. Apologies were received from Sandra and Celia.

Lesley displayed an array of pearl jewellery, many items made by herself following a Denman College course and explained the many advantages of these beautiful pieces.

Explaining the three types of pearl, natural being the most expensive, cultivated and simulated. Natural pearls include Tahitian from French Polynesia, Baroque pearls, which are large and mis-shapen and fresh-water pearls from China bred in mussels.

Lesley was very competent at restringing these lovely beads. Lesley was thanked by Marion and refreshments were served during which time members were able to closely examine the display and have any questions answered.

Following the minutes of the last meeting and the monthly Newsletter being read, a number of items were discussed. It was decided to re-introduce a strawberry tea to take place in

Celia’s garden on August 3. The Llanddarog show to be held on June 25 would be attended by the institute and a rota drawn up by Margaret, and items for the tombola collected. Members were pleased that Heather and Brian Witt would again loan their tent and had been contacted by Debbie.

Members were pleased to have won £10 in the 200 Club draw. Lilian would be attending the Climate Change Day at the Princess Gwenllian Centre Kidwelly on June 18 and Debbie would be entering the Lady Denman Cup competition again this year. The tickets for the fashion show at the Ivy Bush Hotel were handed to members and arrangements made for transport, where they anticipated enjoying an afternoon tea too!

The monthly quiz brought some surprising results with humours replies.

The meeting concluded with the drawing of the raffle which was won by Margaret. The July meeting will be on the 6th when Petra Wood will advise members on homeopathy at 7pm in the village hall committee room.
