Talking Books Wales

-

JOHN Green, of Johnstown, Carmarthen enjoys preparing quizzes and has created a number of brain teasers in order to raise money for various organisations.

This year, he devised 100 questions where every answer contained the word ‘six’ or ‘seven’ or derivatives such as ‘sixth’ or ‘sevenfold’, the ‘At Sixes and Sevens’ charity quiz.

The sheets of questions were distributed far and wide at £1 per copy, but with a discreet request for a donation towards the particular charity chosen by John. This year Talking Books Wales was the lucky recipient of the proceeds.

The answers were to be sent to John by Easter and 24 contestants scored 90 marks or over, and four people, who had 100 correct answers, were invited to take part in a play-off.

John prepared a further 20 difficult questions and one keen competitor, Richard Jones of Carmarthen, answered them all correctly. He was awarded a £50 token for The Warren Restaurant in Mansell Street (£25 kindly donated by the owner Deri Reed and £25 by a private donor) and the two runners-up were also given a prize.

Talking Books Wales is very grateful to John for preparing such an enjoyable set of questions and for raising the princely sum of £1,100 towards their funds. The cheque was presented to Mrs Linda Williams, manager of Talking Books Wales, at the office at Parc Dewi Sant, Carmarthen on Tuesday, May 24. Talking Books are indebted to all those who took part in the quiz and kindly donated so generously towards their work.
