JUNIORS GET ON THE MEDAL TRAIL

JUNIOR athletes from Carmarthen­shire competed for their clubs at the Welsh Athletics senior and under-15 Track and Field Championsh­ips in Cardiff.

Several athletes who will be competing for Wales at the Commonweal­th Games in Birmingham this summer also featured at the Leckwith campus.

Six medals were won by West Wales athletes – two gold, one silver and three bronze.

Carmarthen Harriers results: Jessica Lee 200m (24.68), long jump (5.94m); Casi Gregson 200m (28.08); Ellimay Williams 100m (12.31); Beatrice Morgan 100m (12.60); Mared Jones 300m (45.78); Amelia Williams 3000m (11:22.19); Cerys Angharad Jones pole vault (2.30m); Dolly Evans discus (26.31m); Carter Norris 100m (11.93); Hugo Douglas 100m (13.49), 300m (42.33); Iwan Thomas 1500m (4:33.03); Macsen Toogood 3000m (10:18.66); Joshua Barnett 3000m (10:19.57); Aron Hedd Jones 3000m (11:19.33).

Llanelli Athletics Club results: Mari Wilson 200m (30.89), high jump (1.30m); Darcy Coslett 200m (28.20), 300m (45.84); Lyra Roberts 800m (2:36.25), 75m hurdles (14.75), pole vault (2.00m); Amelie Campion 100m (14.37); long jump (3.72m); Amy Tucker 800m (2:50.03); Dafydd Lewis 100m (11.34), 200m (22.86); Ewan Williams 100m (13.16), 200m (26.84).

There was also a big turnout from the Pemberton-based club at the JCP Swansea Half-marathon.

Jason Dickinson (1:38.25), Helen Beynon (1:38.53), Claire Protheroe (1:42.51), Kelcy Hooper (1:44.58) and Colin Edwards (1:59.22) completed the course in under two hours and they were followed across the line by Andrew Morris (2:14.18), Andrew Stephens (2:18.27), Gloria Edwards (2:18.30), Ian James (2:19.11), Jody Williams (2:24.00), Liam Thorley (2:26.09), Claire Kearney (2:26.53), Deborah John (2:27.50), Rachel Evans (2:34.23), Natasha Davies (2:49.02), Stuart Turner (2:55.32) and Vicky Lynn Turner (2:55.32).

Jessica Lee recorded a best of 5.70m in the long jump and Lili Church cleared 1.73m in the high jump at Bedford Stadium.

The bank holiday weekend saw the Milton Keynes and Milfield PB Classic events take place, where Iwan

Thomas (4:20.08) and Macsen Toogood (4:37.74) were in action in the 1500m.

Iwan Wilson in the 800m crossed the line in 2:06.96.

Dafydd Jones ran a new 3000m personal best of 8:20.77 before travelling to Watford a week later to compete in the 5000m, clocking 14:29.27 at the Grand Prix fixture.

At the British Milers Club Gold Standard Race at Birmingham University, Frank Morgan ran a Euro under-18 1500m qualifying time of 3:50.31. Joining him at the same event was Ben Thomas, who clocked 3:55.26 in the 1500m.

Jenny Phillips and Jonathan Williams made the trip to Derby for the British Masters Championsh­ips where they competed in the 400m, 800m and 1500m.
