Dafen miss out on top spot after home loss

-

CLYDACH are now third in the Macron West Wales Premier League after a 3-0 win at Dafen Welfare, who missed out on a chance to go top with their first league defeat since August.

After an even opening 25 minutes, Dafen captain Ross Jones was sent off in the 28th minute after an altercation with the referee around a penalty decision when Dan Rees was brought down by Dafen keeper Ryan Blakeway.

From the resultant penalty, Rees put Clydach ahead.

Second-half goals from Evan Daley with a well-taken finish after a good delivery from Tom Owen, and then Cameron Rees secured the three points for Clydach.

Morriston Town also missed an opportunity to leapfrog South Gower.

They were without three of their regular back four for their trip to Llanelli and lost 3-1 to Evans & Williams at Coleg Sir Gar, a result that also keeps the young Albies side in contention at the top.

The teams were evenly matched and at 1-1 going into stoppage time a draw looked a certainty.

The Albies had taken a 49thminute lead.

Sion Williams was played in amid calls for offside, and though his low shot was superbly saved by Huw Jones, the ball bounced back off retreating central defender Rhys Powell and into the net.

Ten minutes later Morriston were deservedly level when captain Samm Harrison powered his penalty past Jac Lewis.

In the 92nd minute, a direct free-kick from around 20 yards was curled past the Town wall and keeper Jones by substitute Ben Williams to put the home side ahead.

Deep into added time, Fraser Williams pulled the ball back to substitute Ben Bowler-edwards to seal it for the Albies.

In the West Wales Cup, West End won 5-0 at newly-formed Carmarthenshire League club Ferryside.

West End were 1-0 ahead at half-time but the second half was mainly one-way traffic.

Nathan Wickham opened the scoring on 40 minutes and made it 2-0 in the 57th minute. Soon after, Mason Davies scored, with further late goals from Dale Griffiths and Kieran Cullen.

CK Swiss Valley lost 4-0 at home to a strong Pontlliw side who are top of the Carmarthenshire League Premier division and are enjoying a fine season with a 100 per cent league win record to date.
