Graffiti painted on the window of MP’S office

GRAFFITI bearing the message ‘Tories out’ has been daubed across the office window of a Conservative MP in big bold letters.

The incident happened at some point last Thursday night at the office of Simon Hart, the MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.

The message actually spells “TORIES OUTT” and has been written in white paint on the window of the MP’S Whitland office in west Carmarthenshire.

Reacting to the vandalism, Mr Hart, who lives just outside Narberth, said it represented “great inconvenience” not just to him but mainly to the owners of the building in Whitland.

He also criticised the vandal’s artistic approach and warned that CCTV in the area might be able to trace the culprit.

“Memo to the person who left this memento on my Whitland office window last night,” said the MP. “The building isn’t owned by me so this is of as great an inconvenience to the owner and other occupiers as it is to the intended recipients.

“The staff who work there are not Conservative Party employees but taxpayer-funded caseworkers.”

He also added: “Banksy needn’t worry too much about the competition, and you may want to brush up on the location of and effectiveness of CCTV.”

Mr Hart, aged 59, has been a Conservative MP for the past 13 years, winning the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency from Labour’s Nick Ainger in 2010. He was also the Secretary of State for Wales until July 2022 and is currently the Tories’ Chief Whip in the House of Commons.

The Conservative Government has come in for prolonged criticism in the wake of Boris Johnson’s controversial tenure as Prime Minister, which came to an end in the summer of 2022, and the subsequently brief and much-maligned tenure of Liz Truss as his successor. Current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has also faced criticism in recent weeks as the NHS in Britain continues to struggle and with many workers across different industries taking part in strike action.
