SNP announce their election candidate for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy

-

THE SNP General Election candidate for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy has been announced.

Cllr Lesley Backhouse, who lives in Burntisland and represents Ward 9 of Fife Council, has been chosen to stand in the upcoming general election.

She said she wants to “upset the pollsters” by winning the seat for the SNP, adding that “we have travelled far down the road towards independence but now we’re in the final straight”.

Cllr Backhouse’s campaign will focus on energy, social security and independence.

She commented: “It is an honour and a privilege to be selected as the SNP’s parliamentary candidate for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy in the upcoming election.

“Our communities need and deserve a strong, progressive MP who will stand up against Westminster austerity, whether it’s of the Tory or Labour variety.

“Scotland generates vast amounts of energy but has no control over it, resulting in higher bills for all of us and too many folk being scared to switch on their heating.”

Cllr Backhouse added: “A vote for me, and a vote for the SNP across Scotland, is a vote for independence, so we can build a fairer future and ensure that the people who live in Scotland can shape Scotland’s future, not out of touch Westminster politicians.

“We have travelled far down the road towards independence, but now we’re in the final straight - and I will work tirelessly to upset the pollsters and be your last MP at Westminster.”
