Best selfie ever? Jacob is my little miracle

Looking at the second line on the pregnancy test, I couldn’t quite believe it.

It was only three months since I’d had a fallopian tube removed after an ectopic pregnancy.

My partner Chris was over the moon.

‘It must be Nan. She’s still looking out for me,’ I said, giving him a hug.

I’d moved in with my nan Christine after my parents divorced when I was 4.

She looked after me and my siblings while Mum went back to work.

She was so proud when I got a job as a police community support officer, and was meant to be one of my guests at my parade when I made the transition to police constable. Sadly, she’d died the week before following heart surgery. During the ceremony, when they played Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep for fallen officers, I saw a big, white feather – a sign that Nan was still around. This miracle pregnancy was another sign. But I was worried. I was given an early scan and my rainbow baby was in the right place. My heart healed as my bump blossomed. On 16 April 2015, Chris drove me to hospital to be induced. On the way, I sent my sister a silly selfie. And 36 hours later I’d had our son, a boy we named Jacob. When he was a few months old, I looked at the selfie and gasped. Nan was in it! She was looking at the car, in her favourite cardi. Nan always joked she’d come to visit after she died! It was lovely to know she was with me on that special day. I’ll cherish the photo forever.
