Why was a kid’s ghost haunting a sex club?
What’s that?’ my mate John gasped as we walked gingerly through the dark cellar.
We’d just come across an enormous wheel, with arm and leg restraints attached to it. It looked like a torture device. And that’s what it was! Believe it or not, we were on a paranormal investigation in a haunted sex club.
We made our way upstairs, which wasn’t any less creepy than the dungeon downstairs.
Vanished
One room had been set up with a dentist’s chair in the middle.
As we flickered our torch around, we saw an orb leap across the room.
‘Did you just hear something?’ my mate gulped. I nodded. It’d sounded like a little girl’s voice.
What was she doing here?
I’m a tattooist by trade, but I’ve been ghost hunting as long as I’ve been inking designs.
It sarted when I was 17, and got a job in a cinema.
In my first day on the job, I saw a man walking along the upstairs corridor.
He disappeared through what I thought was a door.
But there was no door, only a wall. When I mentioned the man to one of my colleagues, he went pale. ‘You’ve seen the ghost,’ he spluttered. Nobody knew who the man was, but he’d been spotted by a few people vanishing in the wall. I never saw him again, but the incident kickstarted my interest in the paranormal.
Weird
I joined a few ghost-hunting groups, went to a few events. My brother-inlaw said a lot of weird things went on in his house. It was a nondescript terrace, but the kids were woken up in the night and had things thrown at them. He even claimed his dad had been carried up to bed after falling asleep downstairs.
‘You wouldn’t want to be in the house on your own,’ he warned. ‘That’s when it all kicks off.’
It seemed like the ideal place for a paranormal investigation, so one evening, the family went out and I brought my group along.
We asked for any spirits to make themselves known. Nothing.
We set up our equipment and listened for odd noises or knocks. Still nothing.
‘You may as well go,’ I shrugged. ‘Sorry it’s been a waste of time.’
Three spirits
After the crew left, I picked up the phone and rang my brother-in-law.
‘The group have gone, you can come back now,’ I said.
There was a silence at the other end. Then…
‘You mean you’re on your own?’ he said. ‘Don’t move. I’ll be back as soon as I can.’
Just like that, the atmosphere changed.
The light in the living room began to get dimmer.
I realised I wasn’t alone at all. There were three spirits with me. One was hiding behind the curtains, another behind the door, and the third was behind the sofa.

mind’s eye.
They were hiding from me. They didn’t know I was aware of their presence.
This was a game for them. Well, it wasn’t a game for me!
All of a sudden, I jumped up and legged it out of the house.
I felt a swoosh of air as they ran after me. I burst through the front door and all the alarms in the house went off!
I was shaking with fear – but once I calmed down, I was more curious than ever.
Go it alone
What are ghosts? Why do some people see them? Are they real, or just figments of our imagination? I decided to take a scientific approach, reading as much as I could, visiting haunted places and recording it all on video camera.
That way, I hoped to find the answer. Over the years, I’ve investigated remote places – derelict buildings, collapsing houses, even a nuclear bunker. I usually go alone, so I can be sure everything that happens is genuine.
On one recent visit to an abandoned house in Baron’s Hill, I found a load of old, broken dolls.
I picked one up and put its dummy back in its mouth, then put it down.
I heard a noise behind me. The dummy was out of the doll’s mouth – and it was crying.
I got out of there as fast as I could!
And then there was the sex club…
Clear as a bell
It used to be a pub, but was taken over by two customers of mine, who transformed it into its current incarnation.
They were keen for me to investigate it, as some of their clients had reported seeing a strange man in the bar! Throughout our investigation, I could feel presences with us. I’d say I’m sensitive – I pick up on these vibrational energies. When I played the recording, there it was, at 28.13 minutes. Clear as a bell. A little girl saying the word ‘ghost’.
Fear
I’m so close to working out what ghosts are. I think our own fear creates a lot of what we think of as ghosts – the knockings, the things getting thrown across rooms. It’s us, not them. Ghosts are like memories or projections from the past. That little girl and the man in the sex club – they’re left over from when it was a pub. They have no idea what it is now! One day, quantum physics will explain it all. But until then, there’s just me and my trusty video camera, looking for answers.
One of the broken dolls suddenly started crying
