Dying in front of my eyes

Please, someone, save my daughter and baby! Angela Riley, 51, from Pickering, North Yorkshire

-

M ‘y back’s killing me, Mum’ said my daughter Katie, 19, as she slowly lowered herself onto the sofa.

It was no wonder she was uncomfortable. Katie was heavily pregnant and, though she was excited about having her first child, she was fed up with waiting.

‘Don’t worry, love, the baby will soon be here,’ I told her.

But in the next few days no baby came, and so Katie was taken into hospital.

Nine days overdue, Katie was given a drug to start her contractions. But it was still three days before she went into labour.

Luckily, apart from the delayed start, everything seemed to be going well.

New life

As the waves of the contractions finally came, I squeezed Katie’s hand. ‘Don’t forget your breathing,’ I told her. I was her birthing partner. Mother and daughter sharing the miracle of a new life.

I was watching the midwife monitoring everything and listening to the baby’s heartbeat on the monitor. It was strong.

Suddenly, Katie’s head fell forward. She was unconscious and looked pale.

I could hear the baby’s heartbeat getting slower.

Then the monitor went

Beep... Beep...

and nothing. No heartbeats. My daughter and her baby had both flat-lined. Within seconds, midwives and doctors were rushing

around the room. I felt weak with fear. I couldn’t believe my daughter and her baby were slipping away from me and began to pray. ‘Please don’t let my daughter and her baby die. Please help them,’ I pleaded over and over.

Saw spirits

I have strong spiritual beliefs and saw spirits as a child. When I was 16, I went to see the famous medium Doris Stokes perform on stage. The medium pointed me out in the audience and invited

me backstage after the show. That night, Doris said I had a gift and told me I should treasure it.

As I had been seeing spirits for years, I wasn’t surprised when, in the hospital room, I looked up and saw a spirit lady dressed in a blue cardigan standing near Katie’s bed.

I could see this woman’s body, but she had no face.

As soon as I saw the spirit woman, I knew my prayers had been answered.

Beams of light

When I looked over to my daughter’s bed, I saw beams of light coming out of the ceiling and into Katie.

The doctors and nurses were oblivious to the light. They were even moving in and out of it.

I was frozen to the spot. I had never witnessed anything like this, it was amazing.

Next, bubbles of lights of all sizes floated down into Katie’s body.

Then, I saw a ball of light the size of a football come out of the spirit lady’s stomach and into my daughter’s tummy – and into her baby. All of a sudden the baby’s heartbeat came back and my daughter regained consciousness. She had been unconscious for eight minutes. But the baby’s heartbeat was dangerously fast.

Go back

I went over to my daughter and placed my hand on her stomach.

‘Mum, somebody told me to go back, it wasn’t my time,’ she whispered.

I nodded and held Katie’s hand.

Mentally I said, Whoever’s in this room, thank you. Please stay with us until this is all over.

Shortly afterwards, Katie was rushed into theatre for an emergency caesarean.

Her daughter Ruby was born at 9.19pm weighing 9lb 2oz.

Home again

Three days later, Katie was back home and she brought up her Near Death Experience.

‘Oh my God, it really did happen,’ I said.

When Katie saw my expression, she said, ‘You saw her, too, didn’t you?’. I nodded. When I told my husband, Mark, 47, about the spirit lady, he was surprised, but he knew I was telling the truth. He’s been aware of my special gift for years. What’s more, when Katie described the events to him, it mirrored my experience, exactly word for word.

Life saver

At that point, I hadn’t discussed the details with Katie, only with Mark, so he knew the spiritual encounter was genuine. I don’t know who the spirit woman was, but I know she came in response to my frantic prayers. She saved the lives of my granddaughter and my daughter. Ruby’s 7 now, and whenever she has a birthday, I silently give thanks to the lovely spirit lady in blue. I’ll be forever grateful to her.
