Ghostly exhibits
Rust-en-vreugd, an art museum, is located in an 18th-century haunted building in the city. Some visitors hear disembodied footsteps, while others say they’ve seen a translucent woman drifting between rooms. Then there’s the strange woman who looks down on visitors from a window above the gallery. Animals are particularly sensitive to paranormal phenomena, so when dogs growl at the portrait of the British Governor of the Cape, Lord Charles Somerset, who passed away in 1831, they’re marking his spirit lingering on in the painting.
