Fairy tale

-

Although she’s often portrayed as an evil seductress and enemy of King Arthur, Morgan le Fay wasn’t always depicted this way. In the early days, this magical enchantress practised the craft under the watchful eye of Merlin. A keen collector and caster of spells, Morgan (also called Fata Morgana or Morgana) was a beautiful woman, and some texts suggest she had fairy blood. Her name translated means ‘the morning fairy’, and it’s thought she was later transformed into the human sorceress who slowly revealed her evil nature and plans for the demise of the king. Some scholars believe she is based on the Celtic triple Goddess Morrigan who governs death and destiny. In this form, she is the Queen of the fairies and has the power of prophecy.
