Built on a cliff’s edge, it closed down in the 90s after the nearby Bogota River became contaminated. This stunning building had also become a suicide hotspot. l In Singapore, following the surrender of the Japanese Army to Allied forces in 1945, 300 Japanese officers are said to have held a farewell party in one of the lounges at Raffles Hotel before committing suicide en masse.
