Safely Surrendered Baby Law
As part of her victim impact statement delivered in court, Jessica’s mother Lillie vowed to campaign to raise awareness of the Safely Surrendered Baby Law in America.
It allows new mothers to leave a baby at a designated safe place, such as a hospital or fire station, within 72 hours of giving birth. It also permits a new mum to change her mind and reclaim her baby within a certain time frame, without any repercussions.
‘I have had so many people tell me that they did not know about Safe Surrender,’ Lillie said.
‘I will go into the schools, to any place I can speak out.
‘I don’t want any parent to have to hold her grandbaby in her arms at the coroner’s office like I did.’
